Earlier this week we came together in a village hall on a small Scottish island to celebrate all that is handmade, unique and beautiful. Our very first Arran Crafts Fayre was the best of days with makers from all over the island coming together with stalls, demonstrations, workshops, charity campaigns and, the all important, cup of tea and delightful cake.
Just a few short weeks ago we had the idea and it was amazing to see it come together so quickly. To create a space where people could come and learn and appreciate different crafting techniques by watching demonstration, viewing finished work and taking part in a workshops was just perfect. There was a lovely atmosphere in the hall and visitors were genuinely interested in what they saw. I can’t tell you how much this meant to all the makers as we put ourselves on the line when we pitch up with our wee stalls.
A very special mention must go to all the crafters who have made lovely wee things for the Duke of Edinburgh stall. We are raising money all summer to support the expedition costs of the young people on the island who take on this challenge. Together we raised £60 which is a fabulous start. If you are reading this and would like to make small, pretty things that we can sell do get in touch as we need all the help we can get.
I think it is about the attention to detail. Every maker takes enormous care with their stall, we set up a colouring table for children to use and our tearoom hostess was just magical. Her cakes were really out of this world and everyone commented on how delicious they were.
One of our members met every visitors with a genuine welcome and we managed to tell them all about what we are doing now and what we hope to do in the future. We hope we are building lasting friendships.
If you are a maker on the island and would like to join us do get in touch and if you would like to visit our next Arran Crafts Fayre it is on Tuesday 18th July 11-3pm in Whiting Bay village hall. You would all be most welcome.
Keep up with all that we do on our FACEBOOK PAGE.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far, especially our lovely team of stallholders. See you next time. xx
